Meet the Costume Sherpa Team!
Here at Costume Sherpa, we don’t believe life should be boring. Why get caught up the dreadful parts of everyday life, when you can escape through fantasy?
As people who love dressing up and making believe, we want you to have an easy and hassle-free time choosing, putting together, and creating your costumes. Costumes are fun, and getting the best outfit can sometimes mean two very different things: either you get the top-quality costumes available online. Or you may go the DIY route and flex your creativity.
However, we understand that it’s not easy to come up with the perfect costume for the occasion, theme, or group. With an endless stream of ideas, sometimes you can get paralyzed and get overwhelmed by even choosing your outfit.
We also share the horror of showing up at a costume party dressed as Maleficent and finding out the Sleeping Beauty already has 17 evil stepmothers! Or trying to adhere to a particular theme but not necessarily succeeding. And yes, we know that couple costumes can be a bit challenging to do right.
The problems become more pronounced during the holidays, such as Halloween or Christmas when there are loads of costume parties, and you can’t find any place that will rent out your costumes.
Our Mission
We at Costume Sherpa are here to help. Our team promises to fill your screen with one-of-a-kind inspiration to help you concoct your next costume. your When you’re stumped on which ghoul or cartoon character to go as or what age-appropriate or themed costumes will be perfect for the whole family, we will show you not just the best costume ideas but also where to get them.
Saving money or want to try out some of our unique ideas? You can go DIY as we show you want a little creativity can do to an old dress in your closet, some crafting materials, and hot glue can do. These DIY designs are also great for creating costumes in a pinch!

How We Work
At Costume Sherpa, we combine our passion for costumes with real-life tests. Our team, like you, also loves dressing up and costume parties. As such, we can share our ideas and curate only the best ones. You don’t have to deal with sucky costume ideas, and you don’t limit your choices, either.
To give you the best costume ideas, we rely on the get-ups we’ve personally tried, scour reviews, Instagram posts, and blogs for the recommendations of costume party organizers, cosplayers, and professional costume designers. Sometimes, we draw inspiration from Instagram posts and Pinterest boards to give you the most awesome costume idea. And then we take time to test these.
We spend weeks trying on different costumes and see how they look in person (because we know pictures can be deceiving!) We check the quality of the artistry that goes into each outfit, as well. Do the seams hold up? Can the costume be worn in the future? Are you better off buying or renting?
As such, our team is confident that when we recommend a costume, it will be worth every penny. Objective and honest reviews are what we give you because we know how it feels like to be stuck with a costume that, well, simply sucks. If we’re testing out a costume, there’s a special process we follow to make sure we recommend an outfit that’s actually worth your money.
Our review process can be rigorous. That’s how serious we are with costumes! To give you an inkling of how we go about our recommendations, here’s our approach:
- We generally take an interest in a costume that catches our eye or is recommended to us. It might be something that we’ve worn before. Nevertheless, we buy these costumes to review them, to keep our recommendations honest and with no biases.
- We take note of everything, from the ordering process to the delivery. Once we have the costume, we immediately try it on and then check on the quality of the textile, the workmanship, and everything else.
- Our team of reviewers will keep a log of their observations, criticisms, and review points.
- The assigned reviewer will write the article with the help of the editorial board and other writers. However, empirical and anecdotes will come from the primary reviewer.
- Once the review has been uploaded, it gets constantly updated with any significant changes that might affect our recommendations. We also welcome community inquiries and input, which may change our review for particular costumes.
We filter out the bad ones so you can focus on spending money on the top-notch costumes that can last a long time and make you the center of attention at any party you attend.

Meet Our Team (While They’re All Dolled Up)
Katrina Dent – Professional Cosplayer
Kat doesn’t remember what life was like before cosplay. She really got involved in cosplay as a teenager. Since her first time wearing cosplay, she’s been totally hooked. She works to fund her cosplay addiction first, and puts her bills second. If there was a way she could wake up dressed in a different cosplay every day, Katrina would make it work! She wants to help others find the peace and comfort she’s discovered in cosplay.
Why am I giving advice on Costume Sherpa?
I literally took the advice “walk around in someone else’s shoes for a day” seriously when I was in my teens. After I realized how freeing (and powerful) it is to be someone else, I knew I wanted to get into professional cosplaying. I want to help other people discover how to express themselves and feel the relief that comes with dressing up in costumes. Even if it’s just for a night!
What’s your all-time favorite cosplay?
I dressed up as Sakura from Naruto one time!
What was the first cosplay you dressed up in?
The Good Witch from The Wizard of Oz!
What got you interested in cosplay?
I realized costumes provided me a safe place to express myself. If I was having a bad day, I could dress up as an evil character and felt like I could make the world crumble. I learned so much about myself, what I like (and don’t) all just from cosplay.
What’s one piece of advice you would give to someone who’s just starting out with cosplay?
It’s okay if you don’t completely make your first costume by yourself. You’ll get more experience as you get more involved in the world of cosplay!
Matt Howell – Born & Raised in Cosplay
Matt fell in love with cosplay when he was a little boy, thanks to his loving mom. Now that he’s all grown up, he still loves expressing himself through various cosplays. He gets together with a group of friends once a month to show off his latest cosplay project. Matt’s biggest goal is to inspire other people to involved themselves in the world of cosplay so they can learn to express themselves, like he did!
Why am I giving advice on Costume Sherpa?
I was involved in Cosplay before the term was even a thing. I watched the first
Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles movie and wore the Michelangelo costume that my
mother had purchased for my birthday. I would re-enact the scenes in the film while jumping on my couch, swinging toy nunchucks around and making a lot of noise.
But my sweet and caring mom never gave me a hard time. She knew the struggles I faced as a slightly overweight kid with a speech impediment who moved around a lot, and that is what is at the heart of Cosplay. You get to leave the daily struggles of the world behind and become something different, even if just for a few hours at a convention. You get to meet other people with the same views as you, and you instantly become connected.
Cosplay is more than just having fun and dressing up as your favorite characters. It’s about utilizing the imagination that, as a kid, was an everyday occurrence. Cosplay is a way to connect with others and that young child who used to swing plastic weapons around their living room without a care in the world.
What’s your all-time favorite cosplay?
This is an impossible question, I have too many!
What was the first cosplay you dressed up in?
Michelangelo from Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles!
What got you interested in cosplay?

What’s one piece of advice you would give to someone who’s just starting out with cosplay?
Don’t be afraid to make yourself stand out with cosplay. After all, nobody knows who you are when you’re dressed up and ready to change the world. Your fear of people finding out who you really are underneath your costume can really hold you back.
Stephanie Jensen – Goth Queen
Stephanie Jensen is a lover of costumes though she’s too lazy to dress up for Halloween. She’s a forever goth girl who lives the spookiest life possible. Stephanie wants to help you discover your inner goth, both in fantasy and IRL.
Why am I giving advice on Costume Sherpa?
I love costumes and dressing up! There is so much that goes into dressing up as your favorite characters. You have to find the right accessories, do your hair and makeup right — and all of this goes beyond the outfit! Plus, you may want to dress up…but aren’t sure who you want to be! That’s why I also love offering costume suggestions.
What’s your all-time favorite cosplay?
I dressed up as Jason Voorhees for Halloween last year!
What was the first cosplay you dressed up in?
Well, if we’re going way back, the Pink Power Ranger!
What got you interested in cosplay?
I love movies and the different characters. Transforming into your favorite character is such an awesome feeling.
What’s one piece of advice you would give to someone who’s just starting out with cosplay?
Don’t focus on perfection. Just have fun with cosplay and costuming!
